What to drink during an electoral marathon?
My answer: White Port Tonics!
Why should we be drinking this deliciously refreshing iconic Portuguese cocktail?
Not only is it deliciously refreshing – like lemon verbena infused gin and tonic but
1. I don’t want to desecrate a single wine/ winery or vineyard with this political carnage.
2. I may also need something stronger than wine.
3.
But not too strong as I will probably be having a couple of drinks;
definitely more during a debate / town hall meeting . White port works
well for cheeky extra glasses as it has half the alcohol percentage of
vodka/ gin!
4. Something quick to make, easy to drink and not too expensive. See above point for why.
My recipe:
Mix
white Port ( Taylor’s Chip Dry White port is great value and
delicious), tonic ( fever tree for me) and lemon. I also love to add
mint and cucumber for an extra lift – which we can all use right now!
5. It is different and vinously transports me away to sun drenched Douro days…. reminding me better days will come.
So
until we can travel to Portugal and while we navigate the news – here
is a simple and reliable way to cope with it all… oh and of course by
tuning into @wineshowtv series which is based in Portugal and comes out in 2 weeks….
Lol!!! Couldn’t help myself!
Shameless plug or not – this has been my steadfast and reliable companion throughout October!
