Weekend Reading Recc Plus Proud Friend Post!

IMG_8081

This Tuesday marked the release and launch of my friend’s book, ‘Fundamentally’ and I could not be more proud!

Fundamentally by Nussaibah Younis – was published this Tuesday and has been named ‘Debut Novel of the Year’ by Stylist! And there are rumours of a TV series…

What is it about:
Nadia is an academic who’s been disowned by her puritanical mother and dumped by her lover, Rosy. She decides to make a getaway, accepting a UN job in Iraq. Tasked with rehabilitating ISIS women, Nadia becomes mired in the opaque world of international aid, surrounded by bumbling colleagues.

Best drink pairing:
Something strong, dark, biting yet fun – possibly a Dark Rum Negroni…. A fantastic spin on a well known cocktail.

Only Nussaibah could create a novel about rehabilitating ISIS brides; which is super insightful, reflective AND also absolutely hilarious! She also made Sara Pascoe, the interviewer and renowned comedian, laugh all night.

I am only half way through but can already attest to the high praise it has garnered from The Sunday Times, The Guardian, Marian Keyes, Dolly Alderton to name just a few.

So if you fancy a brilliant and laugh out loud read – go check it out.
You know how I will be spending most of the weekend!

What other hot off the press books are you enjoying at the moment?
