National Albariño Day

Happy 1st August and Happy National Albariño Day!
I adore this crowd pleasing, versatile and gastronomic grape so I had to do a little vid which highlights why it’s so great and how you can find it all over the world.
In the video I explore the classic style of Albariño from its spiritual homeland in Rias Baixas Spain.
The example I use is: La Val Albariño available @waitrose for £16.99
For the purists out there this is a textbook example – for more info see video!
But I also wanted to highlight the gorgeous New Zealand counterparts which are now available. The plantings of Albariño have increased 135% since 2018 in NZ and I can completely see why.
The maritime wine regions are capable of producing plusher, more intense versions of their Spanish relatives, with still the same zesty acidity and satisfying saline undertones.
NZ Albariño has been a real discovery for me during the last two years and I can’t wait to see even more of it here. Check video for more details.
The example I use is from: Esk Valley, Hawkes Bay in NZ and is £17.35 @whalleywineshop@boncoeurfinewines@elliescellarscotland plus other online retailers

So I urge you to go out, try some delicious Albariño from Europe and beyond. And don’t just limit yourself to National Albariño day!
Cheers!
