Matariki – Maori New Year

The 28th of June it’s Matariki – the Maori New Year!

It’s a time to reflect on the past year, celebrate the present and plan for the future. And as of two years ago, it is now rightfully a public National Holiday.

Having worked closely on the podcast with Goedhuis Waddeson, and seeing how much they champion the culture and stories behind their wine, it made sense to celebrate the day with 2 exquisite wines from the Edmond de Rothschilds wineries in NZ.

Both wineries bear Maori names and at both wineries, the team are dedicated to giving back to New Zealand’s natural environment by working sustainably and converting vineyards to organic and later regenerative farming.

The two celebratory NZ wines are:

1.Rimapere Sauvignon Blanc Single Vineyard 2022

It brims with tropical passion fruit, vervy bright acidity and I love its satiny succulent texture.
I can’t believe it’s only £17.00  – available @ocado

 2. Akarua Pinot Noir 2021

This is a fantastic pinot noir from my fave NZ wine region for pinot – the Central Otago. The area is known for making distinctive and super complex wines and this one lives up to the hype.
I adore the brooding dark plum and dried redcurrant fruit infused with oolong tea spice.its fantastically intense and expressive.
£41 @goedhuiswaddesdon and other online retailers.

Cheers to reflecting and celebrating and Happy Matariki to my Kiwi friends!
