How to get the Best Bang for your Buck from Bordeaux

‘How to get the Best from Bordeaux’ mini tutorial
Using two beautiful wines from the @goedhuiswaddesdon portfolio
I am all about discerning hedonism but with Bordeaux producing over 900 million bottles annually – one HAS to be discerning.
Key take aways in this video are the golden rules:
When was this wine produced, who produced it and why
For Vintage guidelines I stick to Jancis Robinson’s rule of Five for Bordeaux:
Since 1985 any year which is divisible by 5 is usually pretty good
Both bottles here are from 2020 – Fantastic Big Tick!
Both bottles come from the wine producing branches of the Rothschild family – known for their consistency, quality and longevity. Another Tick!
And both of these wines also deliver for the price because of their WHY – why they were produced.
Moulin de Duhart 2020 at £62.00 – the second wine of Château Duhart- Milon –
is a STEAL which I explain in the video when I cover the significance of second wines to illustrious estates especially in good vintages. Oh and I also mention how it has similar soils and the same team to Lafite – its neighbour!
I adore its mulled blackcurrant fruit with savoury undertones and this wine was still so alive 5 days after opening. So elegant!
My next tip is don’t just stick to the well known/ glitzy regions.
Château Odilon 2020 £25.00 is an estate owned by Edmond De Rothschild in Listrac.
Learn about what makes this cooler, limestone region so special especially with the acceleration of climate change.
I love the plump cassis fruit from the Merlot and the slight vanilla and liquorice spice from the 14months it has had in oak.
So watch the vid here, get more bang for your buck with Bordeaux and definitely check out these two under the radar Bordeaux bottles!
What are your Bordeaux tips?
Santé!
