Glyndebourne Opera Festival

From its Brideshead setting, partnerships with local English wineries, incredible art installations by @conradshawcross and beautiful pastoral gardens which enable sheep, picnics and silk dresses – Glyndebourne is a true experience of all the senses! And that’s not even getting to the epic opera theatre and incredible production!

Carmen is an opera close to my heart. It was the first opera I saw at 7 years old as my parents thought that the bull fighting, passionate lovers and dramatic music would keep me engaged – and they were right! This year, for Glyndebourne’s 90th anniversary, it was a new adaptation of Carmen after 20 years and BOY was it just as riveting. Set in dystopian scenes of borderlands, this thoughtful yet thrilling production explores nuances of domestic abuse and presents a Carmen who really makes us consider what it means to be a strong woman today.

@rihab_chaieb was sexy, smart strong and sassy and proves that although Bizet wrote this opera in 1875 – there is plenty of scope for clever directors and choreographers to make it relevant and just as stirring for contemporary audiences.

With Glyndebourne offering incredible discounts and memberships for Under 40s and Under 30s – this is an operatic extravanganza which would delight opera lovers and the opera curious alike. And it’s only a one hour train journey from London so you can even work in the morning and then be transported to another world by 3pm.

Bravo to the wonderful cast, crew and Glyndebourne team and cheers to another 90 years!
