Restaurant recc: Mountain

The hype is TOTALLY justified.

I was worried that my expectations were set too high – they weren’t.
My experience  @mountain.restaurant SURPASSED them.

This cosy, bustling hub of Spanish inspired dishes, brings together all my fave things when going out to eat.

Incredible hospitality without being OTT. We were encouraged to order less and weren’t guided to the most expensive dishes.

As someone who is allergic to cow’s milk and gluten intolerant – there were soo many options I could enjoy and I DIDN’T feel I missed out on the experience. Huge win!

Our Somm, Rachel Jones, really knew her stuff AND listened to what we actually were in the mood for. In this case she suggested a wine which was off the menu and was fantastic value.

We wanted a heavier red which could still go with all the dishes and Alvaro Palacio’s ‘ Comins del Priorat’ was a great shout. This pioneer of the Priorat region absolutely delivers in his ‘entry’ wine with all the ripe blueberry, fig and blackcurrant fruit you could want plus the lifting licorice spice and coffee undertones which made it so versatile with food.

Some people may find the tables too close together but I actually loved the cosy ambiance and it meant I could see what other people ordered/ not get food envy. Having the kitchen as part of the dining room really enhanced the gastronomic experience – I love seeing all the action and kitchen camaraderie. The team liked to hug each other which is a plus point for me.

I recommend getting a late lunch booking on the weekend (2.30pm) that way you can linger and stay for extra dessert time… one could go back for the dessert offering alone and I am NOT a dessert person.

Michelin stars are a controversial testament – but this place deserves all the hype! I am already planning my next trip back.
